Way back in 2006 the good people of the Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County encouraged their staff to try 23 Things. The idea was to expose librarians to the brave new worlds of Web 2.0 and social media. Close to five years on, things have very definitely evolved. As the cutting edge of 2006 approaches ubiquity in 2011, the “2.0” tag ceases to hold the futuristic wonderment it once did, and web entities like Google, Facebook, and Twitter continue to influence everything they touch.
In this post 2.0 world Librarians need to not only have experienced web technologies, but be expert manipulators of them. The web is no longer just a place to go for information, it’s social and where reputations are made.
